The Wirksworth Community Orchestra (WCO) was originally established back in September 1983 and has been active ever since. For some years it was known as the Wirksworth Area Community Orchestra (WACO), but has more recently returned to its original name.

We are a group of around 45 people who enjoy making music in the company of like minded folk.

We play a wide variety of music, from classical to modern, including music from shows and both the big and small screen. Two or three times a year we put on a concert at a local Derbyshire venue, often joining with other local musicians or groups. Our aim is to provide an opportunity for people of all ages and walks of life to fully participate in an orchestral environment within the rural community.

We rehearse on Thursdays in The Parish Rooms, St. Mary's Gate (next door to St. Mary's Church) in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. We have full orchestra rehearsals every other Thursday during term time, with String, Wind or Brass/Percussion sectional rehearsals on some alternate Thursdays. We always welcome new players joining us so if you think you'd be interested, please see both the Current Vacancies page for details of the sections where we are currently short on members and also the Join Us page for more information.
