In her iconic gothic tale, Mary Shelley’s infamous scientist – Victor Frankenstein, marvels at The Wondrous Cave’ in Matlock Bath. Join us for the nine-day festival to celebrate Matlock Bath’s gothic past with daytime fun and evening entertainment for all ages. There will be an exhibition about Mary Shelley, the book and what life was like in Matlock Bath 200 years ago when the book was written.
The stimulus for the book was a short story competition between Mary, her husband Percy, Lord Byron and their physician. The stimulus for our short story competition will be a short extract from the book about ‘The Wondrous Cave’
